And..They're Off!
And so it begins...the first group of Tourists began their journey today. Bill Gryder, Leland Rich and Steve Shaffer are all flying out of Seattle Tacoma airport tomorrow but left home today to be sure to catch their connection. Bill and Leland are departing from Fairbanks, Alaska while Steve is departing from Campbell, CA and flying out of San Jose Airport.
Bill Gryder wins the distinction of traveling the furthest and leaving the earliest for the Tour. Bill will travel 7,079.9 miles to arrive in Edinburgh (Home->FAI->SEA->CDG->EDI). Leland Rich has it comparatively easy traveling just 7,078.9 miles (he lives 1 mile closer to the Fairbanks airport than Bill). On the other hand, Mike Shalhoub will barely break a sweat, traveling just 3,245 miles to Edinburgh (Home->JFK->EDI).
Below are Bill (left) and Steve (right) upon arrival at their respective airports. While Bill looks like he arrived early in the morning, it's actually 10:30 am in Fairbanks but the sun wouldn't rise for another 20 minutes (only to stick around for a mere 4 hours and 14 minutes). Steve looks like he might have already hit the airport bar!
Jeff Wright (Chicago, OH), Shawn Olesen (Fargo, ND), Roger Smith (Bismarck, ND), Michael Dry (Racine, WI) and Craig Fischer (Fort Wayne, IN) will meet up in Chicago and will fly into Charles De Gaulle, Paris.
Ken Olson (Minneapolis, MN), Kent Beadle (Minneapolis, MN), Chris McMahon (Eau Claire, WI), and Doug Anderson (Stevens Point, WI) will meet up at Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport and will fly into Charles De Gaulle.
All of the above will take the same flight from Charles De Gaulle into Edinburgh, Scotland and arrive (hopefully) around 10:30 AM local time (5:30 AM ET).
Peter Lyons (Nashua, NH), Bret Jackson (Detroit, MI), Mike Shalhoub (Scarsdale, NY), Doug Brugler (Cary, NC), Wayne Anderson and Greg Eisenhauer (Boston, MA) will meet up at JFK Airport in NY where they will fly directly to Edinburgh and will precede the larger group by about 90 minutes.
We can only imagine the fàilte (welcome) that awaits us upon our arrival!
