Day 20 - Dumfries

The Tourists left the North West Castle Hotel and Stanraer at 8:30 in the morning for the nearly 2 hour drive to Dumfries.

Upon arriving we were met by Alex Dickson and another Dumfriesian (not sure if that is the proper term, but it sounds as good as any) curler at the train station and had a short walk to the home of World Champion Curler Graeme Adam who has an impressive private curling museum with likely about 100 old curling stones.

Mr. and Mrs. Adam were kind enough to have a number of single malt scotches available and while it was still the morning, Peter was determined to break the record so he took one for the team.  At the end of the day, Peter had reached 97 different single malt scotches while on the Tour.

The Tourists then took the coach a short drive over to the Dumfries Ice Bowl and were greeted by a bagpiper and guard of honor and served a delicious buffet lunch.

The afternoon’s results:

Team Beadle (USA/Red) vs. Team x (Scotland/Yellow)

USA - 7  Scotland - 5

Team Jackson (USA/Red) vs. Team Whyte (Olympic Silver Medalist) (Scotland/Yellow)

Scotland - 7  USA - 6

Team Wright (USA/Red) vs. Team Hardie (Olympic Silver Medalist) (Scotland/Yellow)

Scotland - 5  USA - 4

Team Rich (USA/Red) vs. Team x (Scotland/Yellow)

USA - 8  Scotland - 3

Team Anderson (USA/Red) vs. Team x (Scotland/Yellow)

USA - 8  Scotland - 3

Unfortunately, the scoreboard was cleared before we could get a picture but the scoreboard was:

USA  2 0 0 2 0 2 1 1

SCO  0 2 0 0 1 0 0 0

The Tourists gained 10 points today to lead by 119.

After the matches, the teams had a drink together and Tour Captain Leland Rich was honored to be asked to present an award from the local province to both Ross Whyte and Grant Hardie.

Tourist Skips Bret Jackson and Jeffrey Wright were relieved to have led their teams to very close games against these Olympic Silver Medalists, losing each game just by one shot.

Dinner Party

After the afternoon’s games, the Tourists met up with their home hosts, and then headed to a house party at David and Fiona Hardie’s (parents of Olympic Silver Medalist Grant Hardie) home.  It was a wonderful catered buffet with good fellowship.

Tomorrow, the Tourists head to Lockerbie for 2 games. Just 5 games that count toward the group by left, followed by one exhibition match.
