Day 9 - Aberdeen

The Tourists departed the Aberdeen Airport Crowne Plaza at 8:45 am for Curl Aberdeen, a beautiful 6-sheet dedicated facility.  The facility hosted the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Championship and is the home club of Tom Brewster 1995 World Junior Champion and 2014 Olympic Silver Medalist.  Tom is now the Ice Rick Manager at Curl Aberdeen and skipped a team against the USA Today.

One curler found the games did not hold his interest:

For a total of 21 points today.

Total cumulative score:

USA: 266

Scotland: 193

USA Leads by: 73

The Tourists returned to the hotel to get dressed into their F1 formals and then returned to the Aberdeen Curling Club for a formal dinner reception.

A wonderful turnout from Aberdeen Curlers including a number of participants on the last women’s Scottish Tour to the United States including Fiona Glascodine.

In a strange coincidence, Tourist Craig Fischer was sitting next to Fiona Glascodine and realized that he grew up 2.3 miles away from where her son, his wife and their grandchild are living in Sayville, NY (3,242 miles from Curl Aberdeen).

For the first time on the Tour, in addition to the Tourists providing their “entertainment”, the Tourists were treated to some real Entertainment (no quotes needed).  The Sweet Adelines serenaded the Tourists and Aberdeen attendees with such songs as Come Fly With Me, Can’t Buy Me Love, an actually excellent version of Highland Cathedral (the Tourists do a somewhat less than passable version in comparison), Anthem (from Chess the Musical), I Got Rhythm, Caledonia, Go the Distance (from Disney’s Hercules), Wee Deoch & Doris and Here & Now.

Graham Stanley provided the Vote of Thanks.

Albert Middler provided the Good Night.

The Tourists had to return to the hotel by 10:00 pm due to bus driver work time regulations.

Tomorrow, the Tourists have an early departure from Aberdeen to Perth for two games tomorrow. We are especially looking forward to curling against Derek Brown, former head of the High Performance program for USA Curling.
